ENVIRIA equips KION Group distribution center with solar power

Frankfurt am Main, Thursday 20th of March 2025 – KION Group, a leading provider of intralogistics solutions, is partnering with solar startup ENVIRIA to install a large-scale photovoltaic system on the roof of its regional distribution center in Kahl am Main. Covering approximately 17,000 square meters, the system will have an installed capacity of 980.1 kilowatt-peak (kWp) and is expected to generate around 975,000 kilowatt-hours of green electricity annually.

The majority of the solar power generated will be used by KION for production and the operation of its electric warehouse logistics. If the generated solar power exceeds KION's needs, the surplus will be fed into the public grid, allowing the surrounding region to benefit from the installation as well.

ENVIRIA is responsible for building and operating the solar system on the distribution center’s roof. KION will secure the generated solar power at a fixed price through a long-term power purchase agreement (PPA) with ENVIRIA. This allows the logistics company to transition to solar energy without a significant initial investment.

Construction began in February 2025, with grid connection planned for the summer of the same year. Once connected, green electricity will be available for immediate use.
