Frankfurt – Thursday, 08 of August 2024 DEUTSCHE ROCKWOOL, one of the leading suppliers of stone wool insulation materials for the building sector, has decided to work with solar startup ENVIRIA to implement a large-scale photovoltaic system at one of its three production sites in Germany. The system will be installed on two roofs of the plant building in Gladbeck. With an output of 560 kilowatt peak (kWp) on an area of around 5000 square meters, the company aims to produce around 510 kilowatt hours (kWh) of clean electricity every year and save 140 tons of CO2 in the process. The plant is scheduled for grid connection in fall 2024.

More independence from the electricity market with solar energy

The PV system on the two roof areas of the ROCKWOOL plant on Bottroper Strasse in Gladbeck is a further step by the company towards a sustainable energy supply. The system was planned in accordance with the guidelines of the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG), with 100 percent of the electricity generated being used directly by ROCKWOOL.

"We chose ENVIRIA because the solar company not only installs the system, but also provides commercial and technical operational management if required. Photovoltaics is a central component of our sustainability strategy, and ENVIRIA impressed us with its extensive experience from numerous comparable projects," explains Boris Barzen, the responsible project manager at DEUTSCHE ROCKWOOL.

Melchior Schulze Brock, Managing Director of ENVIRIA, adds: "Our collaboration with ROCKWOOL is an example of how customized solar solutions for large industrial plants can contribute to the energy transition and make economic sense at the same time."

A strong signal for the industry

The project underlines the importance of ROCKWOOL's sustainability goals with regard to the efficient use and resource-conserving production of energy. The project also sends out a strong signal about the importance of renewable energies in the manufacturing industry.

About ENVIRIA

ENVIRIA makes it radically easy for companies to switch to solar energy. The startup takes on the financing, planning, installation and operation of solar systems, as well as the integration of charging stations and energy storage. Solar systems can be purchased or rented. ENVIRIA also leases company rooftop areas, operates solar systems on them and markets green electricity.
